All nations believe they are blessed by their gods. Most of us Americans profess to be certain that we as a nation are beloved and blessed by the Christian God. Too many of us believe that the history of America has been divinely guided and all of our interactions with other nations are always righteous and all of our wars are always just.
Very recently the enthusiasm for that idea has begun to be questioned by a majority of us Americans who now realize that our unprovoked, preemptive war against Iraq was a horrible mistake.
Far too many people are uninformed enough about American History to the extent that they are calling this current war the first unprovoked war America has ever fought. That simply isn't true. In 1846 the United States invaded Mexico without any provocation whatsoever. Two years later after several bloody battles U.S. forces conquered and occupied Mexico City. Shortly thereafter the United States forced the Mexican government at gun-point to agree to the humiliating terms of the treaty of
Guadalupe Hidalgo, divesting Mexico of 500,000 square miles of territory that it rightfully won from its long, bloody war of independence with Spain.
In 1846 President Polk didn't launch an unprovoked war against a sovereign neighboring state based on a lie. His stated purpose was to fulfill Manifest Destiny which a vast majority of Americans believed was preordained by God. Most of us Americans believed at that time, and even to this day, that all the land between the oceans in North America were predestined by Christianity's God to belong to the Anglo-Saxon race.
American History
We are a great nation. By using the Rule of Law as set forth in our Constitution we have, despite some notable missteps, for over two centuries continued to be a shinning paradigm for the world to emulate. Our Nation was not founded on Christian principals. Our Nation was founded on the Rule of Law.

The State of Texas leads the nation in executions. Since the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976, Texas has taken the lives of 405 people as of October 7, 2007. The State of Texas has never in its history executed a white man or woman for the murder of a black man, woman or child. Click here to check the accuracy of that statement. Our solar system coalesced from the remnants of an ancient exploded star some 4.5 billion years ago.
We Homo sapiens evolved only around 200,000 years ago.
And a mere 12,000 years separate the first bow and arrow from the International Space Station.
